Research show that there is little evidence to support the concept that diet can have major impact on psoriasis. While diet doesn’t cure or cause psoriasis, many people with psoriasis agree they have found cure by changing their diet.

There is evidence that dropping surplus weight and improving cholesterol can calm itchy soreness and clear outbreaks. However, you shouldn’t overlook your experience with the disease. If eating certain food makes the condition worse, stop eating and see what happens. That could be a trigger for you.

Losing weight tends to lessen psoriasis symptoms of systemic inflammation, says Grey Goldenberd, an assistant professor at the Icahn School of Medicine in New York. A recent study found that regular exercising and eating healthy can improve your overall health – psoriasis, too. Although, it’s not clear how the two are related; but inflammation is one likely connection.

Research has shown that overweight people are likely to develop psoriasis and the risk keeping increasing as BMI, body mass index. On the other hand, losing weight seems to lessen symptoms.

  1. Eat when you are really hungry rather than when you are stressed or tired.
  2. Keep a check on what you eat. Writing how you feel when you eat can help you identify triggers that may cause you to eat too much.
  3. Don’t skip breakfast, else you’ll be starved by lunch time and have difficulty choosing healthy options throughout the day.
  4. Stay hydrated. Most of the time people mistake thirst for hunger.
  5. Eat slowly, else you eat more than your require to satisfy hunger.

  4. Avoid processed food and fast food since they do not contain much nutritious value.
  5. Check the amount of sodium you are consuming. Limit to 15oo milligrams per day.

A gluten-free diet can take some months for the inflammation to settle. Doctors recommend people with psoriasis to remain gluten-free for at least three months, to be sure that all sources of gluten are removed from your diet. If you do not find positive changes, add it back into your diet. In the next four to five days, be sure to make note joint pain, headaches or increased itching.

One benefit of gluten-free diet is that it encourages you to eat more fruits and vegetables, fish, dairy and meat, which can be healthy options if consumed right.
